Mission and Vision
BrainSpark.Art collaborates with community agencies and non-profits to support Social Justice issues for underrepresented community groups by addressing current social and community health issues. We aim to build a relationship based on respect that allows for community response and action. Engaging in the art process promotes the healing benefits of expression and relaxation for a healthy brain. Art is a tool for change that empowers the community. Contact us for your agency needs. We will meet you where you are at. We believe all people should have access to creativity, the arts and mental health care.
Values
« Healing centered engagement, leveling the power dynamics, healing support, responding to community need, cultural sensitivity and humility, invitation, offering, partnership, space, access, equity, the power of creativity, openness, connections, healing centered- community based, antiracism, intersectionality
« We value healing centered engagement, which is an alternative approach to trauma-informed care. Rather than centering the traumatic experiences of the individuals and communities with whom we collaborate, we aim to center their strengths and capacity for healing and change.
« We are committed to antiracism. We recognize that racism is systemic and structural and that, because of the various privileges we hold, we are complicit in these systems. Being antiracist means being aware of the ways in which we benefit from systemic racism and actively seeking out ways to redistribute power and resources.
« We value the power of creativity. As art therapists, we believe in the power of art making and engagement with the creative process to incite change, transformation, growth and healing both for individuals and communities.
« We are committed to responding to needs and forming partnerships and connections with communities who seek out our services.
« We value cultural sensitivity and humility. We are committed to listening to and learning from the experiences and identities of the people we partner with as well as being aware and critical of the ways in which our own identities and experiences inform our understandings of people from cultures different than our own.
« We aim to offer equal Access and education for mental wellness
« We honor Intersectionality as part of the unique and diverse human experience.
Partnering with local agencies such as the MN Art Therapy Association, Adler Graduate School- art therapy interns, community artists, grants, art therapy professional volunteers, we aim to provide access to care.
